Abstract

Population structure of Mus spretus Lataste, 1883 in sugar-cane fields of the south of the Iberian Peninsula
In the present study, data on age distribution, sex-ratio, life-span and migrations from a population of Mus spretus living in sugar-cane fields of the mouth of the river Guadalhorce (south of the Iberian Peninsula), are presented. Breeding takes place from March to imiddle January. There are three reproductive peaks: April-May, August-September and December. The age distribution in this population varies depending on the rep~oductive activity. Sex-ratio, particularly over the age-class D, is skewed in behalf of dd, however it shows significant monthly variations. Life span is estimated in 14-15 months. The population under study shows territorial displacements due to the agricultural use of this area.
