Abstract

Biometry and sexual differences in Pleurodeles waltli Michahelles, 1830 (Amphibia, Salamandridae) of a population of northeastem Iberian Peninsula
Biometnc differences between the sexes of Pleurodeles waltli are studied using a discriminant analysis on 13 body measures, obtained from a sample of 158 males and 142 females. The most discriminating measures are head-body, tail and anterior limb lengths, and head width. However, there is an important overlap in the measures between the sexes, the analysis clasifying correctly only a 75% of the individuals. Differences between males and females are discussed according to differences in the behaviour of the two sexes during breeding.
