Resumen

Structure and seasonality in a Pyrenean Oak woodland bird comrnunity of Northern Spain
The main features of the breeding and wintering bird communities of Northwest Palencia Pyrenean Oak woodlands are analyzed. A total of 56.4 and 44.7 ha were censed during winter and spring, respectively, by means of the line transect method. The seasonal change of the community is characterized by a winter impoverishment, by a great importance of the species which only stay during winter and by the winter absence of the species which forage in the soil and scrub layer. It is suggested that the great snowcover and the subsequent decrease in the prey availability is the main factor producing these changes.
