Resum

This paper is a contribution to the knowledge of moss inhabiting nematofauna on the Azor IsIands. The biotope of the moss mass living in laurisylva (the laurel forest, the ancient authocton wood) from Fayal and Terceira is studied. The nematofauna is similar, in general outlines, to the whet evergreen wood biotope in the mediterranean region.
The dominant species in the whole of the nematofauna is Plectus cirratus (58,5%). The subdominant species are Monhystera vulgaris, Prionchulus muscorum and Eudorylaimus obtusicaudatus. 34% of the species are predaceous forms; 18% are bryophageous forms; 66% are detritophageous forms; and 25% are saprobiontic and rhizofil forms. Tripyloidea, Mononchoidea, Dorylaimioidea, Monhysteroidea, Plectoidea, Rhabditoidea and Tylenchoidea are the represented groups. This note ist the first contribution to the knowledge of muscicole nematodes on the Azor Islands.
