Syngnathus agassizi Kaup, Canestrini: nombre válido para unos singnátidos capturados en Sa Ripita (Mallorca, Islas Baleares) (Pisces, Syngnathidae)

Resum

In this paper some specimens of syngnathids that were classified as Syngnathus agassizi are revised, comparing them with three differenciated populations of S. abaster. The small number of specimens belonging to the first mentioned species, does not allow any kind of statistical study and it’s necessary to turn to the interpretation of determinate biometrical and meristic characteristics, reaching the conclusion that both species can be considered as two different ones. The problematic that can arise when using an specific terminology and the convenience or inconvenience of its use is also exposed.
