Resum

The use of the space by various species of birds in the gardens of La Granja: the importance of vegetation structure and tree species
The importance of the vegetation structure in the distnbution of 12 bird species is studied in the gardens of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia, Spain) by the use of Principal Components Analysis (PCA). The observed frecuential distributions in the use of vegetation is compared with a random distnbution. Results suggest a much greater preference than expected fot the hedges, anda lowerone for the thickets. This wuld beexplained considering that the edges provide more protection and food resources. Birds use more frequently the lindens than the oaks. This could be related to the structural differences of both vegetal species. Finally the use of tree species and vegetation structure to attain an adequate management of gardens is considered.
