Resum

Seasonal variation of the avifauna in two holm oak woods (Quercus ilex) in northern lberian peninsula
Differences in the seasonal evolution of the abundance and specific richness of the bird communities in a coastal and in an inland holm oak wood are studied by means of line transects. The variation in the inland holm oak wood communities is similar to the variation described in most lberian inland wood communities, with the highest density and richness values measured in summer and autumn and the lowest in winter. The reduction in density and richness shown during winter in the inland wood seems to affect both the insectivorous and the mixed diet birds. Despite its location in the Euro-Siberian region, the variation seen in the coastal wood is similar to the variation in several thermomediterranean woods, where the highest richness and density values are measured in the winter and during the autumn passage. The mild clirnate on the coast and the presence of abundant Mediterranean fruit-producing plants favour the presence of many fruit-eating and insectivorous birds during the winter and the autumn passage.
